In this six-week class, I'll walk you through my process for starting a still life, a landscape, and a portrait in water soluble oils — two sessions per subject. I'll give you reference photos and drawing guidance for each one, so you're never starting from scratch alone.

This class is best suited for painters who already have some foundation — think "level two beginner" or intermediate. If you've worked in oil or acrylic before and have a handle on color theory and basic drawing, you're in the right place. If you're brand new to painting, I'd point you toward one of my beginner offerings first.

What You'll Need

A medium-to-large sketchbook for drawing practice
Graphite pencils (4H, 2H, 2B, 4B, 6B) and an eraser
Canvas paper, oil paper, or stretched canvas — whatever size you like. I'll be working on 12" x 16" Arches Oil Paper:

A set of water-soluble oil paints (Winsor & Newton Artisan, Royal Talens Cobra Artists, Daniel Smith, or Holbein Duo Aqua are all good options). I'll be using a Winsor & Newton set like this one:

Water-mixable mediums like fast-drying medium, linseed oil, or stand oil (recommended, not required)
5–7 brushes — a few flats, a few rounds, and one liner
Palette paper or freezer paper, OR a lidded palette like this one:

Water cup(s)
Thick paper towels or shop towels
Blue or masking tape

Policies

This class needs a minimum of 3 students to run. If we haven't hit that by 48 hours before the first session, I'll cancel or reschedule and reach out to everyone by text or email with the option to transfer or receive a refund.

If someone else will be joining you, please have them register separately.

Cancellations & refunds: Missing a session doesn't come with a transfer, makeup, or refund. Cancel with at least 7 days' notice before the class start date for a full refund; after that, no refunds are issued.

Transfers: If I have to cancel due to low enrollment, you're welcome to transfer to another class or to the rescheduled date.
